Nature of Iran is among the common climate conditions of the Middle East i.e. hot and dry. But in Iran you will find a relatively variant nature from north to south and west to east. At this post we will introduce nature of Iran with a look to Alamut Valley.

With having a look to the map of Iran, you can see the country does not have a good layer of vegetation. In total this is not a green country. The only dense area of woods you can see is in north of Iran. In other words it is located at the southern belt of Caspian sea. The other relatively green zone in nature of Iran is in the west of the country. The central and southern Iran are almost quite dry.

Is Iran mountainous?
Yes. There are two main mountain ranges in Iran. One of them which stretches from north-east to north-west is called Alborz. It is located in southern edge of Caspian sea. Alborz mountain ranges has the highest peaks including Damavand, Alam Kooh, Sialan and Shah Alborz.

The other main range is Zagros which goes approximately from north-west to south-west Iran. There are many nomad tribes who are still living at these mountains. Our main focus of this post is Alborz ranges in northern Iran.

As I mentioned, the only real green zone is in north of Iran with the name of Hirkani woods. UNESCO enlisted this green belt in 2019. Alborz mountain ranges and more specifically Alamut Valley is one of the best and most picturesque sections in the nature of Iran. This is what Lonely Planet, Bradt Guides, Stefan Loose, Trip Advisor and many other travel guides and blogs believe.

As Caspian Sea is at the northern skirt of the Alborz, then Alamut Valley finds its place at the southern hillside of it.

The best season to visit almost the whole Iran is spring. Alamut Valley offers a lot of attractions in other seasons as well.
